Overview

Midafresa is a fast-acting anticonvulsant injection developed and marketed by Alfresa Pharma in Japan for the treatment of status epilepticus. It contains midazolam at a 0.1% concentration. Midazolam is a small molecule benzodiazepine that acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor, enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission in the brain to terminate prolonged or repeated seizures. It was launched in Japan in December 2014 as a treatment for this life-threatening neurological emergency.
