Overview

Midkine siRNA refers to a class of experimental small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules designed to silence the expression of the midkine (MK) gene. Midkine is a heparin-binding growth factor that is frequently overexpressed in various malignant tumors and inflammatory conditions, where it promotes cell proliferation, migration, survival, and angiogenesis. By utilizing the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, midkine siRNA induces the sequence-specific degradation of midkine mRNA, thereby reducing protein levels and inhibiting tumor progression. Preclinical research has explored the therapeutic potential of midkine siRNA in several indications, including oral squamous cell carcinoma, gastric cancer, neuroblastoma, osteosarcoma, and hepatocellular carcinoma, as well as vascular conditions such as intimal hyperplasia. No specific proprietary drug product or clinical-stage program under this exact name has been identified, and it is primarily used as a research tool to investigate midkine biology.
