Overview
Mikeluna (OPC-1085EL) is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical, specifically through the Otsuka Beijing Research Institute for the Chinese market. It contains carteolol hydrochloride, a non-selective beta-adrenergic antagonist with intrinsic sympathomimetic activity (ISA), and latanoprost, a prostaglandin F2-alpha analogue. The drug is indicated for the treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Its mechanism of action is dual-fold: carteolol reduces the production of aqueous humor by blocking beta-receptors in the ciliary body, while latanoprost enhances the uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor. This combination provides superior intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction compared to latanoprost monotherapy, as demonstrated in Phase III clinical trials in China. The product was approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in China in 2016.
