mIL-12 plasmid is a gene therapy construct consisting of plasmid DNA that encodes murine interleukin-12 (IL-12). It is primarily used in preclinical oncology research to induce localized expression of IL-12 within the tumor microenvironment. IL-12 is a potent cytokine that promotes the differentiation of naive T cells into Th1 cells and stimulates the activity of natural killer (NK) cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes. Delivery is often achieved through gene electrotransfer (GET) or hydrodynamic injection, which facilitates cellular uptake of the plasmid. This localized production of IL-12 aims to trigger a robust antitumor immune response while minimizing the systemic toxicity typically associated with recombinant IL-12 protein administration.
