Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mimopezil is an experimental small molecule acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor developed as a pro-drug for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. After administration, mimopezil is rapidly absorbed and converted into huperzine A, its active metabolite. Huperzine A inhibits acetylcholinesterase, thereby increasing levels of acetylcholine in the brain and potentially improving cognitive function in Alzheimer's disease patients. The drug was initially developed by the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and later advanced by Debiopharm International SA[1][3][8].
