Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MIN-117 is an investigational small molecule antidepressant developed by Minerva Neurosciences for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). It was originally discovered by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation. The drug acts as an antagonist at serotonin 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A receptors and inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and dopamine. Additionally, it has affinity for alpha 1A and alpha 1B adrenergic receptors and also affects norepinephrine transporters. Clinical trials showed some efficacy in reducing depressive symptoms with a favorable safety profile; however, development for MDD was discontinued after phase IIb trials failed to meet primary endpoints[1][3][4][5][6].
