Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Minclea (NPO-11) is a topical antispasmodic agent developed by Nihon Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., containing L-menthol as its active ingredient. It is specifically indicated for the suppression of gastric peristalsis during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to improve visualization of the gastric mucosa. The drug is administered as a solution (8 mg/mL) sprayed directly onto the stomach wall through an endoscopic catheter. Its mechanism of action involves the blockade of L-type voltage-gated calcium channels in the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract, leading to rapid muscle relaxation. Minclea was approved in Japan in 2013 following Phase III clinical trials that demonstrated its efficacy in reducing stomach movement with a favorable safety profile compared to traditional systemic antispasmodics like scopolamine butylbromide.
