Overview

MTA-Anglus (a variant name for MTA Angelus) is a bioceramic endodontic cement composed of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). It is primarily used in dentistry for vital pulp therapy, including pulpotomy and pulp capping, as well as for root repair and apexification. The material consists of a mixture of tricalcium silicate, dicalcium silicate, tricalcium aluminate, and tetracalcium aluminoferrite, with bismuth oxide added as a radiopacifier. Upon mixing with water, it forms a highly alkaline calcium silicate hydrate gel that releases calcium ions. This process creates an environment conducive to the formation of a mineralized dentinal bridge by stimulating odontoblasts and inducing the expression of osteogenic markers such as bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs). Its high pH provides significant antimicrobial properties and excellent biocompatibility, making it a gold standard for treating cariously-exposed pulps in young permanent teeth.
