Overview

Mineralized plasmatic matrix (MPM) is a bioactive, autologous-derived grafting complex used in oral and maxillofacial surgery for bone regeneration and ridge preservation. It is prepared by mixing a bone substitute—which may be autogenous bone particles, allograft, xenograft, or synthetic materials like β-tricalcium phosphate—with autologous liquid platelet concentrates (such as liquid platelet-rich fibrin or concentrated growth factors). This process creates a "sticky bone" material where bone particles are immobilized within a cross-linked fibrin network. MPM acts as an osteoconductive scaffold that also provides a concentrated reservoir of regenerative proteins and cytokines, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Clinically, MPM offers superior handling and positional stability compared to particulate grafts alone, facilitating site-specific augmentation in procedures such as sinus lifts, alveolar cleft repairs, and socket preservation by promoting accelerated osteogenesis and soft tissue healing.
