Overview

Minesapride (DSP-6952) is a selective 5-HT4 receptor agonist being developed by Sumitomo Pharma for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C). By stimulating 5-HT4 receptors on enteric neurons, minesapride promotes the release of neurotransmitters like acetylcholine, which enhances gastrointestinal motility and intestinal secretion. This prokinetic effect is intended to increase the frequency of spontaneous bowel movements and alleviate abdominal symptoms in patients with IBS-C. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials in Japan.
