Minodronic acid is a third-generation bisphosphonate used primarily for the treatment of osteoporosis. It acts by inhibiting farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase, a key enzyme in the mevalonic acid pathway within osteoclasts, leading to suppression of bone resorption and increased bone density and strength. Minodronic acid is considered one of the most potent oral bisphosphonates available, with efficacy demonstrated in increasing bone mineral density and reducing fracture risk in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. It was first developed and approved for clinical use in Japan, where it remains widely prescribed[4][6][7][8].
