Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Miopropan S is an approved gastrointestinal combination medication developed and marketed by Laboratorios Bernabo in Argentina. It contains 200 mg of trimebutine maleate and 120 mg of simethicone per coated tablet. Trimebutine acts as a non-selective opioid receptor agonist, targeting mu, delta, and kappa receptors to modulate intestinal motility, serving as both an antispasmodic and a prokinetic agent. Simethicone is an antiflatulent agent that reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the digestive tract, facilitating their expulsion. The medication is primarily indicated for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), post-operative paralytic ileus, non-ulcer dyspepsia, and functional intestinal disorders characterized by abdominal pain, distension, and flatulence.
