Overview

Miquelianin (quercetin 3-O-glucuronide) is a naturally occurring flavonoid glucuronide and a major metabolite of quercetin. It is found in several medicinal plants, including *Filipendula ulmaria* (meadowsweet), *Hypericum perforatum* (St. John's wort), and *Nelumbo nucifera* (lotus). Unlike many other quercetin conjugates, miquelianin is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, where it exerts neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. Research has focused on its potential to counteract neuroinflammation and impaired proteostasis, which are key drivers of Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. It also demonstrates geroprotective properties by modulating aging-associated mechanisms, potentially through the activation of SIRT1 and the inhibition of pro-inflammatory signaling pathways such as NF-kappaB.
