miR-10b-5p mimic is a synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to replicate the biological activity of the endogenous microRNA miR-10b-5p. It functions primarily by suppressing the expression of the transcription factor Krüppel-like factor 11 (KLF11), which is a negative regulator of the KIT proto-oncogene. In preclinical research, particularly studies led by Ro S. et al. and published in Gastroenterology (2021), the mimic has demonstrated the ability to restore KIT signaling in interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) and pancreatic beta cells. This restoration of signaling has shown efficacy in treating diabetes and gastrointestinal dysmotility, including diabetic gastroparesis, by improving glucose homeostasis and gastric emptying. The compound is currently in the preclinical/research stage and is not associated with a specific commercial brand name, though it has been the subject of provisional patent applications for its therapeutic potential in metabolic and motility disorders.
