miR-125 mimic is a synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to simulate the biological activity of endogenous microRNA-125 (miR-125). In various cancers, including cervical cancer, miR-125 functions as a tumor suppressor but is frequently downregulated. The mimic acts by binding to the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of specific target messenger RNAs, most notably Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. This downregulation of VEGF inhibits the activation of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, which is critical for cell proliferation, survival, and metastasis. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that miR-125 mimics can significantly reduce tumor growth, migration, and invasion in vitro and in vivo.
