miR-125b antagomiR is an antisense oligonucleotide-based therapeutic agent designed to inhibit microRNA-125b (miR-125b) function. It works through a loss-of-function mechanism by binding to and blocking mature miR-125b, preventing the microRNA from interacting with its target messenger RNAs. This inhibition can alter gene expression patterns regulated by miR-125b. The antagomiR has been investigated preclinically and in animal models for multiple disease indications including various cancers, cardiac fibrosis, neuroinflammation, skeletal muscle atrophy, and space radiation-induced damage. The compound represents a microRNA-targeting therapeutic approach within the RNA therapy class.
