miR-129-5p mimic is a research-grade synthetic double-stranded RNA molecule designed to replicate the biological activity of the endogenous mature microRNA miR-129-5p. As a microRNA replacement therapy, it functions by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of specific target mRNAs, leading to translational inhibition or mRNA degradation. Key targets include the anti-apoptotic protein BCL2 and the pro-inflammatory mediator HMGB1. In preclinical oncology research, miR-129-5p mimic has demonstrated the ability to inhibit cell proliferation, induce apoptosis, and sensitize cells to chemotherapy in various malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), glioblastoma, and colorectal cancer. While widely used as a laboratory research tool from suppliers like Sigma-Aldrich and Thermo Fisher, it is not currently a branded pharmaceutical product in clinical development.
