The miR-1290 inhibitor is a synthetic, chemically modified oligonucleotide designed to silence the mature human microRNA hsa-miR-1290. It works by hybridizing with the mature miR-1290 sequence, thereby competitively preventing the microRNA from binding to its target mRNAs and inhibiting its biological function. In oncological research, miR-1290 has been identified as an oncomiR that promotes cell proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and resistance to chemotherapy (such as 5-fluorouracil) by downregulating tumor suppressors like hMSH2. The inhibitor is used in preclinical studies to investigate its potential in treating various cancers, including multiple myeloma, colorectal cancer, and ovarian cancer. It is currently available as a research-use-only (RUO) reagent from various commercial suppliers.
