mir-1298-5p mimic is a synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to replicate the biological activity of the endogenous microRNA miR-1298-5p. In the context of oncology, miR-1298-5p often functions as a tumor suppressor, and its downregulation is associated with cancer progression and chemoresistance. The mimic acts by binding to the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of specific target mRNAs, leading to translational inhibition or mRNA degradation. A primary target of miR-1298-5p is Karyopherin Subunit Alpha 4 (KPNA4), a protein involved in nuclear-cytoplasmic transport that is frequently overexpressed in malignant cells. By restoring miR-1298-5p levels, the mimic can counteract the effects of oncogenic circular RNAs (such as circ_0000376) that sequester endogenous miR-1298-5p, thereby inhibiting tumorigenesis and sensitizing cancer cells to treatments like paclitaxel.
