Overview

miR-133b mimic is a synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to replicate the biological activity of the endogenous microRNA miR-133b. It functions as a component of the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to target and downregulate specific messenger RNAs (mRNAs), including those encoding the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), Glutathione S-transferase P (GSTP1), and Fibronectin 1 (FN1). In preclinical oncology research, miR-133b mimics have demonstrated tumor-suppressive properties by inhibiting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in colorectal, ovarian, and non-small cell lung cancers. Furthermore, they have been shown to enhance sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents like cisplatin and targeted therapies like cetuximab. Beyond oncology, miR-133b mimics are being investigated for their potential to promote functional recovery in spinal cord injury and mitigate inflammation in acute lung injury models. It is primarily utilized as a research reagent and is commercially available from suppliers such as QIAGEN and Dharmacon.
