Overview

miR-136 is a microRNA that acts as a tumor suppressor in various cancers, including glioblastoma. It functions by post-transcriptionally regulating gene expression, specifically targeting the 3'-untranslated region (UTR) of mRNAs such as CYR61 (Cysteine-rich angiogenic inducer 61). In glioblastoma models, miR-136 expression is up-regulated by the PPARα activator fenofibrate, leading to reduced cell proliferation. It has also been investigated for its role in other malignancies and biological processes like apoptosis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
