miR-139-3p mimic is a synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to replicate the biological activity of the endogenous microRNA miR-139-3p. In the context of bladder cancer, miR-139-3p is identified as a tumor suppressor that is frequently downregulated. The mimic acts by restoring the levels of this microRNA, which then directly targets the Matrix Metallopeptidase 11 (MMP11) gene. By binding to the MMP11 mRNA, the mimic inhibits its expression, which in turn suppresses the migration and invasion of cancer cells. This therapeutic approach is being explored for its potential to treat advanced and muscle-invasive bladder cancer.
