Overview

miR-139-5p inhibitor is a microRNA-targeted therapeutic candidate designed to suppress the activity of miR-139-5p. In preclinical research presented at the AACR 2012 meeting by investigators from the University of Texas, this inhibitor demonstrated potent and selective activity against small cell lung cancer (SCLC) cell lines. Inhibition of miR-139-5p was shown to decrease SCLC cell viability by over 80% while exhibiting minimal cytotoxicity toward non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) or immortalized human bronchial epithelial cells. The mechanism involves the antisense-mediated neutralization of miR-139-5p, which is hypothesized to act as an oncomiR in the context of SCLC.
