miR-139-5p mimic is a synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to mimic the function of the endogenous human microRNA hsa-miR-139-5p. It acts by upregulating miR-139-5p activity, which typically results in the post-transcriptional gene silencing of various target mRNAs. Preclinical research has identified several downstream targets including Matrix metalloproteinase-11 (MMP11), Insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R), and NOTCH1. The compound is primarily used as a research tool to investigate the role of miR-139-5p in diseases such as bladder cancer, colorectal carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer, glioma, cardiac hypertrophy, and depression. It is currently not an approved therapeutic and is available through research reagent suppliers such as MedChemExpress.
