miR-140-3p agomir is a chemically-modified, double-stranded microRNA (miRNA) mimic designed to emulate the endogenous miR-140-3p. It features specific modifications to enhance stability and cellular uptake, including phosphorothioate linkages at the 5' and 3' ends, a 3' cholesterol group, and full-length 2'-methoxy modifications. Biologically, it acts by targeting and downregulating specific mRNAs, notably SUZ12 and components of the MAP2K6/p38 signaling pathway. Research has explored its potential in modulating disease processes in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and various cardiovascular conditions. It is primarily utilized as a research tool to study miRNA function in vivo and in vitro.
