Overview

A miR-142 inhibitor (or anti-miR-142) is a class of oligonucleotide-based therapeutics designed to bind and inhibit the activity of microRNA-142 (miR-142). miR-142 is a highly conserved microRNA that is frequently upregulated in various cancers, including breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs). In BCSCs, miR-142 targets the 3'UTR of adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) mRNA, suppressing APC expression and aberrantly activating the canonical WNT signaling pathway to promote self-renewal and tumor growth. By inhibiting miR-142, these therapeutic agents restore APC expression, suppress WNT signaling, and impair the tumorigenic capacity of cancer stem cells. miR-142 inhibitors are typically developed as chemically modified antisense oligonucleotides (antagomirs or anti-miRs) to enhance stability and cellular uptake.
