A miR-145 inhibitor is a synthetic oligonucleotide, such as an antagomir or a chemically modified antisense strand, designed to specifically bind and neutralize the biological activity of microRNA-145 (miR-145). In various oncological contexts, particularly pancreatic cancer, miR-145 is characterized as a tumor suppressor that downregulates oncogenic targets including Mucin 13 (MUC13), HER2, and AKT. While miR-145 mimics are typically explored for therapeutic restoration of tumor suppression, miR-145 inhibitors are primarily utilized as research tools to investigate the signaling pathways regulated by this microRNA and to model the biological consequences of its downregulation, which is associated with increased cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis.
