Drug intelligence / Profile preview
miR-146a-5p-loaded kidney-targeted exosomes is a preclinical exosome-based therapeutic candidate developed by Tongji Hospital of Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology [P259]. It consists of exosomes modified with a peptide targeting intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), which is highly expressed in the kidney tissues of patients and mice with calcium oxalate (CaOx) stones [P259]. The exosomes are loaded with miR-146a-5p mimics via electroporation [P259]. This drug delivery system is designed to target the kidneys and deliver miR-146a-5p, which inhibits M1 macrophage polarization through the IRAK1/TRAF6/IKK/NF-kappa B pathway, thereby reducing the formation of calcium oxalate stones and mitigating CaOx crystal-induced kidney injury [P259].
