Drug intelligence / Profile preview
miR-146a mimetic refers to a class of synthetic microRNA mimics designed to replicate the function of endogenous microRNA-146a (miR-146a), which acts as a critical negative regulator of innate immunity and inflammatory responses. By mimicking miR-146a, these therapeutics target the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of key pro-inflammatory signaling transcripts, specifically interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 1 (IRAK1) and TNF receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6). This downregulates the activation of the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathway, thereby suppressing the production of downstream inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and IL-8. miR-146a mimetics are being investigated for various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, including diabetic wound healing (such as diabetic foot ulcers), acute lung injury (ALI/ARDS), inflammatory bowel disease, and urinary tract infections. Ceria Therapeutics is a key developer of miR-146a mimetic formulations, such as nanoparticle-conjugated CNP-miR146a (CTX-001, CTX-002), which are currently in preclinical development.
