Overview

**mir-146b mimic** is a synthetic double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to mimic the function of endogenous microRNA-146b (miR-146b), primarily the mature miR-146b-5p strand, which acts as a negative regulator of inflammatory and oncogenic pathways. It functions by binding to the 3' untranslated regions of target mRNAs, leading to their degradation or translational repression. In preclinical studies, mir-146b mimics have demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing COX-2, IL-1β, and HuR expression in human airway smooth muscle cells (hASMCs) in response to proinflammatory cytokines like cytomix; antitumor activity via inhibition of TRAF6 and MMP16 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) models, reducing tumor growth in xenografts; context-dependent effects in ovarian cancer by targeting FBXL10 to inhibit migration/invasion while promoting proliferation and chemosensitivity to cisplatin and paclitaxel; and suppression of lipid accumulation in hepatocytes. Delivery methods include lipofection (10-100 nM concentrations) and targeted nanoparticles (e.g., Lac-PDMAEMA for hepatocytes). No specific developers or approved indications are identified; it remains an investigational RNA therapeutic tool.[1][2][3][6]
