miR-148a-5p inhibitor is a synthetic antisense oligonucleotide designed to bind and neutralize the activity of microRNA-148a-5p. In the context of multiple myeloma (MM) research, miR-148a-5p has been identified as being significantly overexpressed in patients compared to healthy controls. While its sister strand, miR-148a-3p, has been shown to promote cell proliferation and target tumor suppressors like CCDC6, experimental inhibition of miR-148a-5p specifically has not demonstrated significant alterations in cell proliferation in certain MM cell lines (e.g., KMS28BM, KMS27). These inhibitors are primarily used as research tools to investigate the functional role of specific miRNA strands in oncogenesis and gene regulation, though they represent a potential class of RNA-targeted therapeutics.
