Overview

A miR-150 inhibitor (also known as anti-miR-150 or antagomiR-150) is a synthetic oligonucleotide designed to bind to and inhibit the activity of endogenous microRNA-150 (miR-150 or miR-150-5p). miR-150 is an 'immuno-miR' that plays a critical role in the development, differentiation, and activation of various immune cells, including B cells, T cells, and natural killer (NK) cells. In oncology, miR-150 can act as either an oncogene or a tumor suppressor depending on the cancer type; for instance, its inhibition has been shown to reduce tumor growth in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and pancreatic cancer models, while in breast cancer, its expression is associated with lymphocyte infiltration and better survival. Additionally, miR-150 inhibitors have been investigated in preclinical models of renal fibrosis, lupus nephritis, and abdominal aortic aneurysm, where they help attenuate inflammation and fibrotic processes by modulating target pathways such as SOCS1/JAK/STAT and Notch3.
