miR-15b-3p inhibitor is a synthetic antisense oligonucleotide designed to specifically bind and sequester the microRNA miR-15b-3p. In the context of prostate cancer, miR-15b-3p is significantly upregulated and acts as an oncogenic factor by directly targeting the tumor suppressor Kruppel-like factor 2 (KLF2). The downregulation of KLF2 by miR-15b-3p leads to the suppression of ferroptosis—a form of regulated cell death—thereby contributing to bicalutamide resistance and tumor progression. By inhibiting miR-15b-3p, the expression of KLF2 is restored, which inhibits the SLC7A11/GPX4 axis, increases iron and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations, and ultimately sensitizes prostate cancer cells to bicalutamide-induced ferroptosis. Beyond its therapeutic potential, miR-15b-3p itself has been identified as a highly accurate diagnostic biomarker for early prostate cancer screening.
