miR-182 antagomir is a research-stage, chemically modified antisense oligonucleotide (antagomir) designed to inhibit the activity of the endogenous microRNA miR-182. As a member of the miR-183-96-182 cluster, miR-182 is a small non-coding RNA that regulates post-transcriptional gene expression by binding to the 3' untranslated regions of target mRNAs. The antagomir works by competitively binding to miR-182, thereby preventing it from silencing its natural targets, such as Foxo1 and TLR4. This compound has been extensively studied in preclinical models for various conditions: in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), it reduces inflammatory cytokines like IFN-γ and IL-6; in oncology, it has been shown to reprogram tumor-associated macrophages in breast cancer and modulate chemotherapy sensitivity in glioblastoma; and in neurology, it is investigated for neuroprotective effects following ischemic stroke.
