miR-1826 is a tumor-suppressive microRNA that has been investigated for its potential therapeutic role in bladder cancer. It functions by targeting the 3' untranslated regions (3'UTR) of several oncogenic mRNAs, specifically those encoding beta-catenin (CTNNB1), MEK1 (MAP2K1), and vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGFC). By down-regulating these targets, miR-1826 inhibits the Wnt/beta-catenin and Ras-Raf-MEK-ERK signaling pathways, which are critical for tumor progression. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that miR-1826 expression is significantly reduced in bladder cancer tissues and that its restoration leads to decreased cell viability, invasion, and migration, alongside increased apoptosis and G1 cell cycle arrest.
