miR-187-3p mimic is a chemically synthesized, double-stranded RNA molecule designed to mimic the biological function of the endogenous microRNA miR-187-3p. As a microRNA agonist, it functions by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of specific messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to their degradation or the inhibition of their translation. In preclinical research, this mimic has been utilized to study its tumor-suppressive or protective effects in various conditions, including prostate cancer, clear cell renal cell carcinoma, colorectal cancer, and ischemia-reperfusion injury. It targets several genes depending on the disease context, such as FGFRL1, P2X7R, LRFN1, SPRY1, Seipin, and NIPBL. Currently, miR-187-3p mimic is used exclusively as a laboratory research tool and is not an approved therapeutic agent or a candidate in clinical trials.
