Overview

miR-1976 mimic is a synthetic microRNA designed to replicate the biological activity of endogenous miR-1976. It functions by binding to the mRNA of La Ribonucleoprotein Domain Family Member 6 (LARP6), a protein that facilitates the translation of type I collagen. By downregulating LARP6, the miR-1976 mimic reduces the production of type I procollagen and mature collagen fibrils in vascular smooth muscle cells. This pathway is particularly relevant in the context of atherosclerosis, where insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) has been shown to downregulate miR-1976, thereby promoting collagen-mediated plaque stabilization. The mimic serves as a potential therapeutic tool to modulate collagen content and plaque stability.
