miR-199a-5p mimic is a chemically synthesized, double-stranded RNA molecule designed to simulate the activity of the endogenous microRNA miR-199a-5p. By increasing the intracellular levels of this miRNA, the mimic facilitates the down-regulation of specific target mRNAs through the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). In preclinical research, miR-199a-5p has been identified as a tumor suppressor in various cancers, including esophageal cancer and multiple myeloma, where it targets JUN-B and HIF-1α, respectively. It has also been investigated for its neuroprotective effects in ischemic stroke models by targeting Caveolin-1 and PIK3R2. Currently, it is primarily utilized as a research reagent and is not an approved therapeutic or in formal clinical development.
