Overview

miR-203 is a microRNA that functions as a potent tumor suppressor, particularly in glioblastoma (GBM) and other malignancies. It is encoded on chromosome 14q32.33, a region frequently lost in GBM pathogenesis. miR-203 exerts its anti-tumor effects by binding to the 3-untranslated regions (3-UTRs) of several key oncogenic mRNAs, leading to their degradation or translational repression. Validated targets include ROBO1, which regulates cell motility and invasion, and the anti-apoptotic protein BCL-2. Restoration of miR-203 levels through exogenous expression has been shown to inhibit tumor cell migration, invasion, and growth while promoting apoptosis, making it a potential therapeutic candidate for targeted intervention in oncology.
