miR-20a mimic is a synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to functionally replicate the endogenous microRNA miR-20a (specifically hsa-miR-20a-5p). As a microRNA mimic, it acts through the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to bind the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of specific messenger RNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. In preclinical research, miR-20a mimics are utilized to investigate the role of miR-20a in various pathologies, including oncology and neurology. It has demonstrated potential in repressing multi-drug resistance in osteosarcoma, suppressing proliferation in hepatocellular carcinoma, and improving outcomes in ischemic stroke models by targeting genes such as SDC2, E2F5, and Nr4a3. Currently, it is primarily available as a research-use-only (RUO) reagent from laboratory suppliers and is not in clinical development by a pharmaceutical sponsor.
