miR-223-down antagomir is a chemically modified, single-stranded antisense oligonucleotide designed to specifically inhibit the activity of microRNA-223 (miR-223). Developed primarily as a research-use-only (RUO) reagent by companies such as GenePharma, this antagomir binds complementarily to mature miR-223, preventing it from interacting with and silencing its target mRNAs. This inhibition leads to the upregulation of downstream targets of miR-223, such as NLRP3, IGF-1R, FBXW7, and ATG16L1. In preclinical research, miR-223-down antagomir is widely utilized to investigate the role of miR-223 in various pathological conditions, including acute lung injury, spinal cord injury, epilepsy, and several cancers (such as breast and prostate cancers), where miR-223 dysregulation is implicated in inflammation, apoptosis, and cell proliferation.
