Overview

miR-223 mimics are synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotides designed to mimic the activity of endogenous microRNA-223 (specifically miR-223-3p). As a key regulator of inflammation, hematopoiesis, and immune signaling, miR-223 targets several inflammatory and oncological pathways. Preclinical studies have investigated miR-223 mimics for their potential therapeutic effects in conditions such as pulmonary inflammation, radiation-induced heart disease (RIHD), COVID-19-related cytokine storm, glioblastoma, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). By mimicking endogenous miR-223, these agents downregulate key inflammatory targets, including NLRP3 (NLR family pyrin domain-containing protein 3). Currently, miR-223 mimics exist primarily as research-use-only reagents and preclinical tool compounds, with no specific commercial developer or active clinical programs.
