miR-23b is a microRNA that functions as a tumor suppressor by post-transcriptionally regulating genes involved in cell motility and survival. In the context of glioblastoma, miR-23b is frequently down-regulated, and its restoration has been shown to inhibit glioma cell migration and invasion. This effect is primarily mediated through the direct targeting of the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of the Pyk2 (PTK2B) mRNA, a non-receptor tyrosine kinase critical for cytoskeletal reorganization. Beyond its role in oncology, miR-23b is also involved in modulating inflammatory pathways and has been investigated for its potential in treating autoimmune conditions by targeting pathways such as NF-κB.
