miR-24 mimic is a synthetic double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to emulate the biological activity of endogenous microRNA-24 (miR-24). It functions as a microRNA replacement therapy by binding to the 3-untranslated regions (3-UTRs) of specific target mRNAs, leading to their degradation or translational repression. miR-24 is a pleiotropic regulator involved in various physiological and pathological processes, including apoptosis, inflammation, cell proliferation, and angiogenesis. Preclinical research has demonstrated that miR-24 mimics can attenuate ventilator-induced lung injury by targeting BOK, protect cardiomyocytes from ischemia-induced apoptosis by targeting Bim, and inhibit tumor growth in bladder and cervical cancers by modulating CARMA3 and PTEN/PI3K/AKT pathways, respectively. It is also being investigated for its potential to regulate inflammatory responses in atherosclerosis and infectious diseases like Staphylococcus aureus.
