miR-29a-3p mimic is a synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to replicate the biological activity of the endogenous microRNA miR-29a-3p. In research concerning bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and associated pulmonary hypertension (BPD-PH), miR-29a-3p has been identified as a significantly upregulated biomarker in the tracheal aspirates of affected infants. The mimic is utilized in experimental models to investigate the miRNA's role in pulmonary vascular remodeling, specifically its ability to suppress the expression of Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Subunit A (PDGFA) and Angiopoietin-Like 4 (ANGPTL4) in pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells. By modulating these angiogenic and growth factor pathways, miR-29a-3p is thought to contribute to the pathogenesis of BPD-PH, making its mimic a critical tool for understanding the molecular mechanisms of neonatal lung disease.
