Overview

miR-31 mimic is a synthetic microRNA precursor designed to overexpress miR-31, a microRNA that acts as a tumor suppressor in various cancers, including esophageal adenocarcinoma. In the context of esophageal cancer, miR-31 is frequently downregulated, which contributes to radioresistance by allowing for enhanced DNA repair. By mimicking endogenous miR-31, this agent downregulates several key DNA repair genes, including SMUG1, MLH1, RAD51L3 (RAD51D), and MMS19. The inhibition of these targets impairs the DNA repair efficiency of cancer cells, thereby re-sensitizing them to radiation therapy and potentially improving the pathological response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy.
