miR-338-5p mimic is a synthetic RNA oligonucleotide designed to replicate the biological activity of the endogenous microRNA miR-338-5p. In esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), miR-338-5p is frequently downregulated and acts as a tumor suppressor. The mimic functions by binding to the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of the Fermitin family member 2 (FERMT2) mRNA, leading to its degradation or translational repression. This downregulation of FERMT2 inhibits key oncogenic processes, including cell proliferation, migration, and colony formation. Furthermore, miR-338-5p mimic has been shown to enhance the sensitivity of ESCC cells to cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity, suggesting a potential role in overcoming chemoresistance.
