mir-34 refers to the microRNA-34 family (miR-34a, miR-34b, and miR-34c), a group of small non-coding RNAs that function as master regulators of tumor suppression. These molecules are downregulated in numerous cancers and inhibit malignant growth by repressing genes involved in oncogenic signaling pathways. The primary mechanism is post-transcriptional silencing of target mRNAs that promote cancer cell viability, stemness, metastasis, and chemoresistance. The most studied member is miR-34a. Therapeutic strategies involve using synthetic mimics to restore or enhance the tumor-suppressive activity of endogenous mir-34[1][3].
