miR-484 mimic is a synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to mimic the activity of endogenous microRNA-484 (miR-484). It is primarily utilized as a research-use-only laboratory tool to investigate the functional roles of miR-484 in various biological processes and diseases, particularly in oncology and ischemic injuries. miR-484 acts as a post-transcriptional regulator by binding to the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of target mRNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. Key validated targets of miR-484 include HOXA5, BCL2L13, YAP1, PECAM1, PSMG1, CDA, VEGFB, and VEGFR2. Depending on the cellular context and cancer type, miR-484 can act as either an oncogene (e.g., in triple-negative breast cancer, cervical cancer, and prostate cancer) or a tumor suppressor (e.g., in gastric cancer and ovarian cancer).
