Overview

miR-493 is a tumor-suppressive microRNA that plays a significant role in regulating cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. It is frequently down-regulated in various malignancies, including bladder cancer, liver cancer, and lung cancer. As a therapeutic approach, miR-493 mimics are investigated to restore its expression and inhibit oncogenic pathways. Its mechanism involves the direct targeting and down-regulation of several oncogenes, most notably RhoC (Ras homolog gene family, member C) and FZD4 (Frizzled-4), which are involved in the Wnt signaling pathway and cytoskeletal remodeling. By suppressing these targets, miR-493 inhibits the RhoC/ROCK1 signaling axis, thereby reducing cell motility and metastatic potential.
